Staging your home for buyers is important if you want to sell your home faster. You have to look at it like it's already no longer your own.

Imagine, if you were to walk into your home as a potential buyer there are a few things you wouldn't want to see.

Clutter on the floor, in the closet, on the tables. Get organized, get rid of it. We get used to, and even immune, to seeing clutter in our own homes and tend to ignore it. Potential buyers will rest their eye on the clutter and not be able to see beyond it.

Disrepair. If any of your home improvements are left unfinished, finish them!
Complete the painting on the wall in the mudroom. Fix the leaky faucet in the kitchen.
Tighten the door knob to the bathroom.
Get the crayon off the wall in the kids room.
Buyers see this as irresponsible and will perceive it as a home with hidden issues.

Personal items of the homeowner. The new buyer needs visual space to imagine their own family pictures on the wall or their own clothes in a closet. You do however, need to make it feel warm and comfortable.

Strike a balance here by adding accessories that welcome visitors without making a personal statement.

Spring delivery may mean a baby to some but to others the infant is in their gardens, in the form of a bulb.

Tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths all are precursors to spring.

Tulips are perennials that grow from bulbs. Multi colored, available in multi species, and have heights ranging from 4 inches to 28 inches.

Daffodils are perennials, also known as Narcissus, that bloom in the spring in typical Easter/Spring colors but also can be seen in shades of orange, pink, red and green.

Hyacinths can range from 6-12 inches tall. This compact bulb comes in all the spring flowers we associate with the season.

Prolong the life of your plantings by purchasing plants with tightly closed buds.
The buds will open in a few days and color your container for two or more weeks.

After a long winter of being cooped up inside, spring is the time to open the windows and air the house out.

Beautiful Spring Flowers are the perfect accompaniment to any decor to represent a fresh look and feel. It feels like your bringing a little sunshine inside. Once the blooms die off you can add them to your bulb gardens.

Windows style is much more than just part of building a house with 4 walls, a door, and a few windows.

Really look at windows in a different light, and picture windows as architecture with a purpose.

Look at the examples below and see how some bring in light, while others allow air to come in. Notice how the frame around the window can add interest.

Today I want to Showcase a very modern and hip company that manufacturers decorative pillows and throws and bedding.

Koko Company is based out of Long Island, NY. Now we sell these on our site so yes this is a plug but we just felt their products deserved a little shout out!

Tea Towels is an English term for kitchen towel, which is the term most used by Americans.

According to Wikipedia,
"In 18th century England, a tea towel was a special linen drying cloth used by the mistress of the house to dry her precious and expensive china tea things."

Linen tea towels, being mass produced since the Industrial Revolution, have been used as a kitchen accessory to be further embellishished and personalized through embroidery and other hand stitching.

Hand embellished linen tea towels make wonderful hostess gifts. Add a bottle of wine with that and you have an invite!

I have added a few that bring back memories for me. I remember we had embroidered tea towels in our kitchen growing up but also every pillow case cover had a small embroidered design on the hem.

PANTONE 18-2120; Wins 2011 COLOR OF THE YEAR! Congratulations Honeysuckle.
Reddish Pink sets the tone for color trends 2011.

Pantone announced that Honeysuckle is the new Turquoise. Pantone 15-5519-Turquoise, last year's reigning color of 2010, has passed the crown to this year's new leading lady, Honeysuckle.

Now I must admit, when I saw this color was in the pink family I was a little surprised because I have always thought of honesuckle as yellow. After a little research it turns out my expertise is limited to what I have come to know in my region.

Turquoise represented 2010 well with a color that evoked ESCAPE and a way to get away from it all. But move over escape because this stunning Honeysuckle pink is confident and brave. A vivacious tone of reddish pink ready to get noticed and the confidence to pull it off.

Honeysuckle won 2011 color of the year because it is not biased. This beautiful shade of pink looks good on both men and women and works well, day into night.

Feminine but bold.
Color trends 2011 reflects the shift we have seen in the political arena as well with women running for president and taking charge of the higher offices.

You will probably see this color throughout design and fashion this year in various shades of the color as designers incorporate it into their goods.

Look for salmon, reddish pinks, and orangy pinks to pop up in clothing and home accessories. Have you noticed Dr. Phil's attire this season? Honeysuckle leans to the feminine side but with a dynamic attitude so it will make a statement but in a calm manner.

Can't seem to come up with any new Valentine's Day ideas? Is your partner tired of the same old flowers and candy? Are you at a place in your relationship where it's just not practical for the traditional Valentine's Day gift ideas? Well we're here to help.

Kids, and work, and just everyday life has a way of making Valentine's Day seem like a Lady Ga Ga track of Bad Romance. If this is the point in life that you are at right now we have 5 alternative approaches to love and romance that'll have you looking pretty sweet by Valentine's Day.

1. Mark It On Your Calendar.

Let's start by remembering the date. Valentine's Day is on February 14th. Not just this year but every year. Not only should you mark it on your calendar this year (go ahead I'll wait...) but while you're at it mark it on your calendar for next year also. See that's what we call a two-fer. I know for a fact the ladies love this, because it's one less thing they have to remind the men about.

2. Think Outside The Box.

You might be surprised how many men and women alike would prefer a practical gift over the standard Valentine's Day ideas, including poems and cards. Instead of spending all week trying to come up with some catchy romantic poem and the end all to Valentine's gifts, why don't you just buy a card and write:

"Roses are red, Violets are blue, I got you this quilt, just for you"
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, I cleaned your car, just for you"
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, I taped your favorite show, just for you"
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, I'll run your bath, just for you"

You get the drift and many things are free ideas. Practical and free. Think outside the chocolate box, be thoughtful, and finally practical. I know some men would give up yet another tie or pair of socks this year to have their favorite meal cooked.

3. Remember The Meaning Of The Holiday.

We've covered some good points to get you out of the Bad Romance scene and thinking more like Shania Twain, From This Moment On. Now we need to cover some actual alternative Valentine's Day gift ideas.

We've worked in the flooring business since 1977. The majority of our customers are women. Women talk. They have told us what they like and what they want. The women prefer things done around the house, fixing things, cleaning up projects and messes, taking over the chores of raising kids. When someone does something for their home, it's like they are getting a gift to themselves. Simple, functional, a bargain-doesn't translate to cheap, modern, and installed correctly and in a timely manner.

Now, when the men come to the store to pick up what their wives purchased we hear all about what they would have preferred she get and in turn what they want. Simple, practical, inexpensive, and easy to install.

So with that in mind, here is a list of items we come up with for Valentine's Day Ideas.

Women want their homes to be functional so finalize projects that are left undone before Valentine's day, then take her out for a quick dinner. Don't forget your fancy love poem and card.

Men want the day to not drag on. So simplify it, make their favorite food, have plenty of his favorite beverage on ice, excuse him from any duties for the day. Let him watch sports all day or go fishing or whatever he wants to.

A good book. Nachos. An extra pair of reading glasses to go with it. A nice throw for the home. A Betta Fish. Gift cards for i-phones. Hot Wings. Family photos updated. T-shirt. Lawn Chair. Cookies. Lotion. Clean up your inbox. Auto floor mats. Time alone. Watch a movie together.~

5. Let Someone Know You Love Them.

Valentine's Day is about Love at the end of the day. Make sure you let those you care about know they are loved. Either show it in a thoughtful and well thought out gift like we mentioned above, call them, email them, or better yet tell them yourself by spending time with them. Inspiration comes in all facets of life. Today I want you to look at everyday objects as a way to get inspired about a design idea for a new look in your home.

Easter eggs come in multitude of colors. Mainly, pastels have come to symbolize the colors of spring and Easter. The main goal with Easter eggs is to dye them or add color. Whether their pastel or multi-colored. So were going to use Easter eggs to crack the code on color and design.

A Lesson In Color and Design
Look through these images and see if you can find colors of objects in them that speak Easter to you. They are just objects, it doesn't matter what is in the pictures, you're picking out the colors in them.

When you do this exercise you will then have a tool that you can use to decorate a room or a table or add to your wardrobe. Once you decide on a color idea just shop for that color. Don't get hung up on looking for a particular item, just look for that color(s). The world will open up to you in ideas and objects you would never have dreamed of using.

Simply Quilts.

~The technical term "quilting" refers to the technique of joining at least two fabric layers by stitches or ties.~

I have a few quilts that are tied.You don't see it so much anymore.

As eras pass you see more and more modern artists putting their creative spin on the art. Many leaning toward the more artistic and contemporary designs.

Today's quilters are using their machines as opposed to the hours and hours artists put into hand sewing. Quilting designs are art in themselves, every piece fits just perfect to form patterns and intricate shapes.

However you spin it, Quilts are timeless and meant to be treasured and handed down, like old books. Initially, meant to be used in bed to keep you warm and to look pretty, quilts have found their place in our hearts and now are displayed on walls and museums for everyone to enjoy.

Living Room Decorating - 4 Easy Steps

If this post title interested you then we have to assume you are stuck on ideas for living room decorating. Let's break it down into manageable steps and throw in some inspiration images to get your creative processes flowing and hopefully churn out a new look and feel to your home.

Function

Define how you use your living room. Remember, this is YOUR home, not a waiting room for kings and queens. Is it formal and used only for company? Is it full of kids and newspapers, is it a place to wind down at night and watch tv?

These are questions to ask yourself. Figure out the function and purpose of the room and let your living room decorating play off of that.

If you don't have much traffic in the living room maybe you want to take a classy approach with nice home accents and area rugs that won't get damaged from kids and pets and things. You can display nicer quality or memorable items in a room of this style where it is least likely to get damaged.

Are you a family full of toddlers or teens?

Are your pets part of your family?

You might want to look at storage solutions, a place for everything-everything in it's place.

Use this storage as part of your design in the way of baskets, pretty boxes and trunks. Take a trip to the store you will be amazed how creative manufacturers have gotten with storage bins. They are really attractive now.

If this is your main tv room then maybe think about layout and comfortable inviting furniture to lounge in.

Once you decide the function of your space then the next living room decorating step is to choose the theme you want to create, what look and feel you want to develop.

Theme

Theme does not mean strawberries and chickens. That in most cases falls under the category of collections. Theme means a cohesive look and feel in a particular area. Your theme can be a style such as traditional or contemporary. Don't overlook color as your theme in any situation. Color is free and it packs a huge punch in design and can go along way toward living room decorating.

Your theme might be minimalist, less is more design.

Organized chaos might be your theme, organize all your stuff so it has a home to rest and looks good doing it. Always keep your chaos in it's place and still enjoy all the things people have in their living rooms like remotes, game controllers, papers, dog leashes, pens, toothpicks... oh sorry I got off track. Look at pictures on the internet-get inspired before you start you living room decorating.

Balance

I am a balance freak! If something is out of balance in a room I notice it immediately, I feel it although I might not recognize what the imbalance is at the time, I still feel the unrest.

Balance needs to flow throughout a room. If you have all your furniture shoved up against the walls, the balance will be off in the middle of the room.

Don't put all your tall furniture on one end it will feel like your leaning visually. Notice your home accents in the room, are they balanced? Are those pictures hung evenly throughout the room at a similar height. You can balance your accessories simply by using a tall plant on one side and a lamp on a table on the other creating the same height when your eyes scan the room.

~Eye level is different for everyone. Some people are 5' some people are 6'. If you are uncertain, choose a standard eye level and place pictures evenly from the top of the sofa to the top of the ceiling as if the ceiling were 8'. ~

Don't cut your curtains off at the window sill, this just cuts your room off horizontally in the room. No one likes to get cut off.

You figure out your function, what theme works best with that function, balance your furniture and accessories with the architecture of the room and add some contrast so it doesn't feel boring.

Contrast

Contrast is an overlooked gem when considering living room decorating.

Contrast can be achieved with such small amounts of color or opposing styles. This can be a pop of color in a monochromatic space, this might mean a modern sofa or chair with an antique sideboard. Contrast can be used to make elements of a room stand out that otherwise may have gone unnoticed.

You have the breakdown, you have the tools now.

Your Favorite Rug

My favorite rug changes a great deal but currently this Momeni rug from the Impressions collection is my favorite. I love that it looks like a work of Impressionist art, art that I would be just as likely to put on my wall as on my floor.

This rug is called Foliage because of the Impressionistic trees, it reminds me of that place right in between fall and winter where the trees have fallen and it isn't quite cold enough for snow so we have a soft fall rain instead.

Laminates come in all types of styles with very believable patterns. Hardwood, ceramic, and stone look laminates have become so innovative they look just like the natural surfaces they are meant to immitate.

A word of caution when considering laminate is that most laminate flooring is not suitable for bathrooms or other rooms with high incidences of water on the floor.

They have the look of stone or ceramic but do not carry the same applications. When shopping for laminate flooring be sure to check with your salesperson for moisture warranty.

This week I want to let everyone know that when you purchase a floor product whether it's carpet, laminate, hardwood, or any other flooring the manufacturers suggest a certain cleaning method.

Inform yourself about your particular flooring and what cleaning products and methods the manufacturer suggests. Some products can void the warranty of flooring if cleaned incorrectly.

Your salesperson should have all the information available for you on your flooring purchase and can give you guidance on what to use and how to use it properly.

In addition, some flooring manufacturers require a proper maintenance cleaning. For instance this can be an annual professional cleaning for carpet. It could include vaccuming a couple of times a week. Each flooring is unique and made from unique resources and maintenance and cleaning is individual to each and every product.

preparing for flooring installation.

1. Your flooring product may need to acclimate to the area it is being installed in. If so, it will need to be in the area at a comfortable temperature, cool or warm, for 24-48 hours. Check with your salesperson and see if your product needs to be acclimated. If so, have your flooring delivered to the area of installation a day or two before and turn up the thermostat.

2. Remove any fragile keepsakes or breakables of any kind before the installer arrives. Do not leave it up to them to protect your valuable decor or trinkets. Installers will be banging and clanging things around and can even knock pictures off the walls. Be safe, remove them for the day of installation.
3. Re-confirm your appointment time with your salesperson and/or installer. Sometimes wires get crossed and we don't write down the time or day the same. So that you don't tear your house apart needlessly be sure to reconfirm your appointment a day or two ahead of schedule.

It’s time to update your home or maybe you’re lucky enough to be getting a new home. You have done your research and shopped all the types of flooring such as laminate, ceramic, carpet, or tile. Now you have made up your mind and the direction you’re going to go is with hardwood floors. Below you will find some tips and hints to some of your questions.

Hardwood Hardness
Hardwood hardness is measured by what the industry calls a Janka test. This is important to you because all woods have different hardiness ratings. Some woods are soft, not going to be real good under high heels. Some woods are hard, great for kids and pet traffic. You will need to consider your application and the traffic it will receive when considering the hardwood hardness for your room. Although this is important you still want to choose a style you like so you look at both style and hardwood hardness.

Hardwood Installing
Hardwood flooring is an investment you should protect. If you are not capable of doing the job well you should seek a professional to do your hardwood installing. There are so many things to consider when installing hardwood that you could ruin the whole floor. Things you have to take into consideration in hardwood installing are as follows:
· Handling and Storage. Does the product need to acclimate to the surroundings. Does it need to be stored flat before use. Each product has it’s own set of requirements. Ask your salesperson.
· Job Site Conditions. Are there contractors working overhead such as painters that could destroy the hardwood. Will the hardwood be in the path of where they are walking and might get stepped on.
· Hardwood finishes. Does the hardwood installing require finishing. Some floors come pre-finished some have an added step after installation.

Hardwood Engineered
You will have several discussions with your salesperson considering all the above information. With all that taken into consideration you should also look at hardwood engineered to withstand a lot of the abuse that other hardwoods wouldn’t be able to stand up to.

Decorating your home can involve a large amount of decisions and if you are not careful those decisions can also cost you money. Decorating your home with color can give you a big change in the look of your room without putting a big change in your pocketbook. You do not even have to spend time searching for items on sale because changing the color of a room can be very inexpensive. Changing the color on your walls alone can make a big impact but what if you do not know which color would look best in your home? With just a few tips you can choose the best colors to make your home stand out.

Look around your home and environment

What colors surround you? Is your home already decorated in warm reds or bright blues? Do you tend to wear all black but with hints of green? When you go on vacation do you head to the mountains or is the beach your preference?

Your answers to these questions can help lead you to the colors that will work best for you. If your home is already filled with warm colors then it may be awkward if you paint your living room lime green. The colors of your home should flow as you walk from room to room. If you find yourself being pulled to a certain color not found elsewhere in your home then perhaps you could pick a darker or lighter version of that color that will flow better.

More and more, though, people are using their bathrooms as their own private spas. These rooms are being used for bubble baths and relaxing facials. If this is what you use your bathroom for then it may need to use colors more like your bedroom; subdued colors will help you feel even more relaxed when you light candles to soak in your bath.

Cheap does not have to look cheap
